Best-Ever Homemade Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
- 1 Tbs butter
- 1 Tbs olive oil
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ green bell pepper, finely diced
- ½ yellow onion, finely diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 rounded Tbs tomato paste
- 2/3 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 packed Tbs brown sugar
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- ¾ tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
To serve, you’ll also need:
- American cheese slices
- Buns of your choice (I like sesame seed or brioche buns)
Directions
- First, take a look at the ingredients. This is easy. You have all of this stuff.
- Next, add the oil, butter, and ground beef to a skillet. Turn to medium-high heat and brown the beef. Drain away excess grease.
- While the beef is browning, dice the bell pepper, onion, and garlic. Add these to the browned beef and cook until soft (about 3 minutes).
- Add remaining ingredients and stir well to combine. Reduce heat to medium and cook about 10 minutes or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Turn on the broiler and toast the inner sides of your burger buns.
- Spoon sloppy joe mix onto the buns and top with a slice of American cheese. Return the tray briefly under the broiler to let the cheese melt. Sandwich together and enjoy.
